The Mobile Visual-Acoustic Lab «MVAL» visits the Laboratorium Luzern

From 24 to 30 August 2018, Dr. Ulrike Wissen Hayek, Reto Spielhofer and Laura Endres conducted a study on "Landscape and renewable energy systems" with the local population in the Laboratorium Luzern.

The external pageNRP 70 project "ENERGYSCAPE" investigates how the population judges the visual landscape effects stimulated by a mix of renewables such as wind energy and photovoltaic systems in different landscape types of Switzerland. Audio-visual simulations are used to illustrate scenarios of energy landscapes and to measure both, the emotional reactions to these landscapes and to determine which energy landscapes the study participants prefer. The Mobile Visual-Acoustic Lab "MVAL" is used to reproduce the simulations. At the end of August 2018, the "MVAL" was set up in the external pageLaboratorium Luzern. The Laboratorium was an ideal place to present the project to an interested audience at the external pagefirst Swiss Landscape Congress. Following the congress, for a week the public had the possibility to participate directly in the study, describe their perception of the landscape and indicate their preferences for energy landscapes. These results are used by energy and landscape experts to develop recommendations for landscape development with renewable energy systems.

Further information on the project "ENERGYSCAPE" can be found on the project website.
