New CHECNET project

Recently the Swiss National Science Foundation financed the CHECNET project. Human networks, consisting of settlements and roads, are often a threat to the integrity of ecological networks, in which natural habitats are connected with one another.

In this project, human and ecological networks on the Swiss Plateau will be coupled and we will study the interactions between both types of network. From this project, we expect that results will not only lead to important advancements in spatial ecology and landscape and transport planning, but also in a sustainable development of Switzerland. CHECNET is a collaboration between researchers from PLUS, the Institute for Transport Planning and Systems (ETHZ), the Research Unit of Biodiversity and Conservation Biology (WSL) and the Spatial Ecology Group (University of Lausanne).
