“I think that this game is a perfect reflection of reality, in the sense that everyone sees their own small area and does what they can. But we don’t consult each other. There would have to be consultation even at regional or cantonal level. ”Player
The Swiss objective is clear, 80% of the electricity should come from renewable in 2050. In this game, different municipalities have to deal with this public objective. Energy companies are looking for the best location to implement their project. Cantonal and federal authorities try to find the best legal framework for this transition. How?
Players experiment the challenges of trade-off between protective rules (environmental protection, democratic decision-making, landscape stewardship and preservation of ecosystem services) and the urgency of the energy transition. If they have no prior knowledge, players can also learn how procedures works in federalist and semi-democratic Switzerland. This game is perfect to engage with the tough topic of whether a more centralized state performs better or not to deliver the energy transition.
