MESEU
Mapping of Ecosystems and their Services in the EU and its Member States
Biodiversity, the richness of nature, is fundamental for human living in many different ways: Production of food, drugs and other resources, provision of drinking water and pure air to name just a few. In order to preserve intact ecosystems and the services they provide, the loss of biodiversity has to be halted.
The EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2020 requires member states to map ecosystem services under Target 2, Action 5: "Member States, with the assistance of the Commission, will map and assess the state of ecosystems and their services in their national territory by 2014[…]."
The implementation of Action 5 is supported by the MESEU working group, where Adrienne Grêt-Regamey is a member of the consortium. PLUS contributes by sharing its expertise and knowledge about mapping of ecosystem services, presenting different methodological approaches and integrating the ecosystem services concept into planning and decision making.
