New article in Renewable Energy – Advancing shared energy transition through strategic regional future developments
To advance energy transition, it is essential to understand residents’ views on regional energy transition and how it relates to local spatial development. This insight is key to identifying shared solutions.
This research, conducted in the Swiss region of Knonauer Amt, used a standardized questionnaire with a public participation geographic information system (PPGIS) to uncover residents’ perspectives on energy transition and regional spatial developments. Three key insights emerged: (i) skepticism toward energy transition is driven more by a lack of perceived benefits than concerns about landscape impacts; (ii) energy transition and regional development are deeply intertwined, making it essential to address both together in planning; and (iii) engaging residents early in the planning process unlocks opportunities for collaborative, shared solutions. By tapping into residents’ perspectives, this study reveals pathways for developing shared solutions in energy transition planning.
